Anatomy

A .cardamap is on chain (immutable), meaning that images are hosted on the blockchain, as opposed to the typical 3rd party image hosting provider

Your .cardamap has the following:

  • Epoch Number

  • Explorer Link

  • Number of Transactions

Each map is tied to an individual Cardano Block.

The size of the squares (non ghost block) within a square visual representatives of the data held within a cardamap.

The "Ghost" Block

Due to inactivity on the blockchain (especially in earlier blocks), there are a number of blocks with 0 transactions in them.

Back in 2017 when Cardano was launched it was during a bear market. The ability to mint tokens arrived in Feb 2021, meaning that for 4 years the only thing you could do is send ADA.

We had several ideas about how to represent this.

  • Exclude ghost blocks

  • Find additional identifiers to give them some variance

  • Maintain historical integrity

This being a project based around mapping out the history of the blockchain, we went with option number 3.

Ghost blocks are by far, a minority.

In Epoch 0 there are only 30 or so non ghost transactions in 20k blocks.

Epoch 1, in contrast has around 12k non ghost transactions.

It may not look like it in the current moment in time, but it is our hope that in choosing to include this important part of Cardano's history, the ghost block will be come a cult favourite.

That's also not to say that we do not have a special suprise in store for the holders of them.

So for early believers that may currently doubt the value of their holdings, will soon be pleasantly suprised!
